Anyone can become an Instagram star these days…even an old wooden boat.

The notorious Inverness Shipwreck has been rotting on a shoreline north of San Francisco for quite some time.

And although the old boat is a tourist favorite and an internet darling, officials are now considering removing the wreck for safety reasons.

Make the trip and snap your pic for the 'Gram before this old ship is wrecked for good!

👋 6 Ways To Grab A Prospect's Attention

We all have new year’s goals of pulling in more prospects and turning them into clients.

But even if you're crystal clear on who you're targeting, you have to get in front of these folks and form a relationship to have a shot.

Building trust takes time, but here are six great ways to get top prospects to notice you. 👀

  1. Connect through a mutual friend: LinkedIn is a gold mine for playing the "who knows who" game. If someone in your network is connected to a target prospect or group, reach out and request an intro. (Don't be afraid to reach out to those second-level connections as well.)

  2. Become an expert in their area of interest: Wine connoisseurs, sports fans, and other hobbyists tend to flock together. If you have a passion for something your prospects do as well, why not go all in and become an expert? For example, becoming a sommelier and hosting exclusive tastings could draw in some top vino-loving prospects.

  3. Get recommendations through current clients: One way to accelerate the trust factor is to come recommended from someone a prospect knows. Ask your current clients to introduce you to the rest of their circle.

  4. Connect over email: It may seem played out, but we're in front of our inboxes all day. Why not start up a newsletter and add new connections to your list? Include information your prospects will actually use.

  5. Become their customer: If your prospects are business owners, become a customer where it makes sense. This provides a good foundation for them to pay attention to you.

  6. Support their favorite charity: Successful people love to give back. Make donations to a top charity and attend events to get to know the organization's staff. Once you've established a connection, they'll be more likely to introduce you to top prospects.

If you’ve had any success stories using these methods – we’d love to hear from you.

Who knows, maybe we’ll feature you in our next newsletter?

💸 Tax Planning: A Golden Opportunity

Imagine having a thriving network of CPAs that actually refer you to clients…

And imagine being able to send your clients to those same CPAs to help them with some of their big picture tax planning (while sharing in some of that revenue).

I’m a firm believer that there is tons of hidden wealth in tax returns and tax planning – most of which advisors are unable to tap into without the right relationships.

This is such a golden opportunity that I’ve spent the past few weeks in conversations with Steven Jarvis, a highly-respected CPA who shows FAs how to win in this area.

Steven and I are excited to announce a powerful free training that we’re putting together this Thursday at 1PM EST:

Thursday, January 11 @ 1PM EST

In this double-header event, you’re going to discover:

  • 5 Innovative Strategies for Financial Advisors to Capitalize on Client Tax Returns

  • 3 Secrets to Build a Thriving Network with CPAs That Actually Refer You Clients

  • Proven Passive Methods to Attract and Retain Business Owner Clients

  • The Hidden Wealth in Tax Returns - A Step by Step Roadmap

💡 Hindsight is 20/20

Seasoned pros often spend time looking back at everything they wish they knew when they started out. 🤔

Whether you're new to the game or looking to take your skills to the next level, it's always helpful to learn from those who have gone before you.

Veteran advisors recently shared their reflections with Financial Advisor. Here are three key lessons they learned along the way:

  • One size doesn't fit all: Cookie-cutter approaches…just don't cut it. When you're new, you spend a lot of time in trainings and learning the tricks of the trade. However, getting to know your clients personally and learning about what makes them tick is the key to success. Take each client's case one by one. Tailor your plans based on their unique wants and needs.

  • It's all about relationships: Building trust is the most valuable skill to have while building a lucrative practice. Sure, you can get all the certifications in the world, but it's a genuine relationship that will keep a client with you for life. Make sure your clients feel more like your friend than just a number.

  • Remember, you're running a business: Sales is a huge part of any advisory practice. However, it's important to run your practice like a business. Shifting your mindset from salesperson to business owner is necessary in order to grow. Hone in on an area of expertise and develop a unique strategy that sets you apart from your competition.

Never underestimate the power of mentorship. Seek out the veterans in your professional circle to learn from the best. 🌟

🤖 Tech Tip

Did you know YouTube has keyboard shortcuts? 📺

If you're watching a video from your laptop, use these hacks:

  • Use keys 0 through 9 to skip to a specific percentage of the video. For example, press 5 for 50%.

  • Press J to rewind, L to fast forward, and K to pause.

✌️Good Vibes

Way over in Inner Mongolia, China, a pregnant horse found herself stuck in some pretty serious snow.

One man took it upon himself to rescue the stranded animal, who didn't have the strength to dig out.

Along with some friends and the help of a loader, the horse was hoisted out of the snow to safety.

The best part?

Before the horse walked away, the rescuers said she turned back and gave them what looked like a small gesture of gratitude. 😌🐴
